SensioLabs had the pleasure to exhibit at SymfonyLive Paris 2020 as a Diamond sponsor. About 500 developers of the Symfony community gathered at the Cité Internationale Universitaire of Paris. From technical conferences to discussions, to challenges on the booths, here is the summary of this must-attend event.
Last week took place the SymfonyLive Paris 2020. Despite the current health situation, the Symfony community was there, and the event kept all its promises.
At SensioLabs, we are extremely proud to be a Diamond sponsor at SymfonyLive Paris: this is the only physical event Symfony is organizing this year as SymfonyCon at Disneyland Paris has been postponed to 2021, and SymfonyWorld will take place online on December 3rd and 4th.
This year again, Symfony organized the event in the magical decor of the International House of the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris. This replica of the Château de Fontainebleau, built in 1930, has been home to SymfonyLive Paris for many years.
A summary of the exciting technical conferences at SymfonyLive Paris 2020
Over two days, we had the privilege to attend technical conferences of excellent level about Symfony and PHP. As usual, the event started with Fabien’s Keynote. He shared with the community some exclusive information about Symfony 5.2 and its new components.
We were particularly impressed by several conferences:
- “Modular Monolith: Why? How?”. Timothée Barray‘s presentation was dynamic and very interesting. He presented an agile approach to move towards a micro-services architecture and shared many tips with us.
- “Pragmatic frontend for backend developers” presented by Titouan Galopin. Titouan went through a complete history of JavaScript and gave a new vision of the frontend. He proposed a mix between classic JavaScript (simply injected into a web page) and a complete Single Page App.
- “Making cryptography work for your Symfony apps” by Nicolas Grekas. In the continuation of his interview about Symfony 5, Nicolas raised our awareness about security issues on the web, and then iteratively presented the problems as well as practical solutions.

The main event for the French community of Symfony
SymfonyLive Paris was also a good opportunity to be immersed within the French Symfony community. Several members of the Symfony Core Team were present: it was quite easy for attendees to meet them.
On our booth, we hosted a PHP/Symfony challenge on SensioLabs University eLearning Platform. Contestants had to answer 10 advanced questions about PHP and Symfony as quickly as possible. Several prizes, including a Symfony 5 Certification Online Coaching, were up for grabs. The competition has been elevated!
Our goodies were as successful as in previous years: webcam caches, coasters, pens and other stickers have been much appreciated! This year’s new item was also tremendously popular: the SensioLabs hydroalcoholic gel.
Thus ends our summary of the SymfonyLive Paris 2020. Everything has been done so that the participants could enjoy this event and spend a good time considering the current sanitary conditions.
